The challenges of contemporary global civilization are many and there are voices seeking alternatives, searching for systems of thought that promote harmony and mutuality rather than conflict and difference. There is a universally felt need for a new system of values and thought that has the possibility of creating a world of peace and cooperation. Bhārata as the cradle of global civilization with a distinct vision, philosophy and praxis of education – founded as it is on plurality and togetherness provides a template for full human blossoming. These civilizational values are both centred in and also a product of India’s Knowledge Systems (IKS). Evidently, we need to re-craft our education systems that will herald a brighter and a happier future for Bhārata and the world.
This education system will need to incorporate the domains of knowledge and traditions of texts and thinkers of India’s intellectual heritage. Anchoring education in and facilitating an intimate engagement with IKS for mainstream academia is the need of the hour.
Rashtram School of Public Leadership nurtures ‘Self Aware’ and ‘Civilizationally Assured’ public leaders who are nourished by Indic Knowledge Traditions and Systems of thought. Guided by this mission, RSPL in collaboration with CPDHE (UGC-HRDC), Univ of Delhi, Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM) with the IKS Division of MoE at AICTE and CoEIKS, IIT Kgp as ‘knowledge partners’ and supported by INDICA & Preservation, Propagation and Restoration of Ancient Culture and Heritage of India {(PPRACHIN), Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA)} presents the ‘Faculty Development Programme in India’s Knowledge Systems: Sources, Theories, Concepts and Practices (FDP_IKS: STCP_2021)’ – which aspires to bridge the gap between the vision of an IKS centered education espoused National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) and the levels of awareness, preparation and competency required to accomplish the same.
The program intends to create comparative perspectives for teachers in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) that shall enable them to empower the students to become compassionate, fulfilled individuals, good citizens and contributing members of the world order.
FDP_IKS: STCP_2021 is in continuation and builds on the foundations laid by FDP_IKS 2020, that was organized by the Dept. of Contemplative and Behavioural Sciences at Sri Sri University (5 – 19 Nov, 2020), and, is being staged to be an annual event – the baton of which can be held each year by different HEIs and stakeholders to enable the institutionalization of IKS based education.
FDP_IKS: STCP_2021 seeks to provide intellectual thrust and moral clarity on the imperative of anchoring Indian education in India’s Knowledge Systems. In a world struggling to harmonize the individual with the collective, the modern with the traditional, the economical with the ecological and the sacred with the secular, we need our education systems to be (re)anchored in a philosophy and praxis of oneness. This programme aspires to generate conviction on the relevance of and fluency with the content of India’s knowledge systems.
The aim of the FDP_IKS: STCP_2021 is to contribute to and enrich the Indian education system by the inflection of India’s Knowledge and we hope that pertinent reflections shall be provided for the NEP 2020, which speaks of this imperative, and, will as well execute the NEP 2020 vision set forth.
